The article about DSA candidate Joy Schendledecker for mayor needs to be corrected. In the article, the DSA is described as a “community organization”. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is a national far-left political organization. Their primary objective is to destroy capitalism.
Stated goals of the local DSA include ending all private property by 2050, defunding the police, establishing rent control, freeing all incarcerated people, among others. Local DSA members initiated OVO’s appeal to the Coastal Commission and drafted the empty house tax in the November ballot. The DSA has both a local chapter and a YDSA group on campus. Their other declared objective is to infiltrate all sectors of the local administration.
Make no mistake when you vote; Joy Schendledecker and Justin Cummings are both active members of the DSA. Go to dsasantacruz.org for the facts.
